| and to be honest I was disappointed with the fit and finish with the SZ out of the box. For $595 + core charge (if you dont want to send in an oil pan to SZ), your getting a used oil pan thats been cut/modified/expanded. Its not a unit that was started off from scratch with a clean slate. The pan thats originally used is the pan your still partially ending up with. The SZ pan I worked with came in with the part that mates up with the block bent, and had to be straightened prior to installing. The protective zinc finish on it was poor out of the box, and not cosmetically appealing. I was advised by SZ that this was normal, and that I needed to paint it to protect it from corroding after installed. It also had a dent in the front part of the oil pan (Again, its a modified used oil pan). Also, the oil drains/temp sensor ports/plug threads all had somewhat loose thread fitment and if I remember correctly, the NPT plug I was using at the time for the temp sensor port could be screwed all the way and fall loose into the oil pan, if not paid attention to when threading in. While all of these things I experienced when working with the SZ pan are not a major big deal at the end of the day, $595 is the price your paying (plus a $170 possible core charge), and at that price its somewhat disappointing intially out-of-the-box. For an extra $80 you can jump up to the EPR oil pan and get a 100% brand new product! All sheet metal used is fresh and new. The finish is very nice and does not require any further paint finishing. Its instantly a more impressive, higher quality product right out of the box. Its also fabricated and name-brand manufactured by Moroso, and Made in the USA! The EPR oil pan is the only way to go. The SZ was great for many years because it was the only option, however since the release of the EPR oil pan nothing else compares. You can see in the picture I've attached below that its a very high quality product with no compromises. This was taken right when I received mine and exactly how it looked out of the box!
